Why doesnt my iphhone connect with my computer?

i have the latest itunes on my computer but every time i plug in my usb it comes up in the bottom right corner "usb not recognized" and then when i click on that its a unknown device and i don't know what to do it works on my laptop but i really need it on my computer?
