What is this movie called?

there is a movie that is kinda old, i would say made in the 80s or 90s, this movie is about one or two kids that live in the city and one day eats an apple which sends them to an alternate universe where they meet their dad who is the king. then the kids somehow get trapped in a well and almost get turned into birds. if anyone recognizes this i would like to know the answer
