Is my candy thermometer broken?

There used to be silvery stuff-metal alloy i guess that was supposed to be encasing the real thermometer inside, but it sort of turned liquid and now it's out of the bottom of the casing. The thermomter inside is intact, but im freaked out by the metal alloy-y stuff that's silvery
